Advanced Packaging & Converting – Flexible Laminating

Dublin - Ohio

Bostik, a leading global adhesive specialist, provides lamination adhesives for flexible packaging used in food, medical, and industrial applications. Their adhesives enhance the performance of multilayered packaging films by providing strong bonding, added functionality, and improved conversation efficiency.

We are seeking a Chemist or Chemical Engineer to work on innovation, product development, and optimization of our lamination adhesives product range in North America.

Organization

  • Reports to Sr Research Scientist AP&C Flexible Laminating
  • Begins working on departmental safety initiatives, such as observations and assisting in development of SOPs.
  • Operates in compliance with site safety policies, including material handling and waste disposal.
  • Actively participates in department safety initiatives and initiates improvements in them.

How

  • Master’s degree in chemistry or chemical engineering. Alternatively, bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years’ experience in polymer chemistry, preferably in the adhesive industry.
  • Knowledge and/or experience in the design of polyurethane, polyester, and acrylics polymers, preferably around lamination adhesive for flexible food packaging.
  • Solid understanding of adhesion theory and reaction kinetics, especially related to polyurethane chemistry and polyester.
  • Organizes and analyzes data to explain conclusions and outcomes internally, to stakeholders, and supervisor.
  • Communicates effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Knows how to apply Design of Experiment techniques.
  • Takes ownership of equipment and processes used in work group and is able to apply well-defined methodology.
  • Able to set up new research equipment, plan, and execute experimental programs.
  • Good understanding of statistical methods and analysis.

Problem Solving

  • Applies scientific principles to development projects.
  • Uses internal and external networks to solve problems.
  • Solves problems under guidance of senior research scientist, meeting timing requirements.
  • Organizes and analyzes data to explain conclusions and outcomes internally, to supervisor.
  • Demonstrates competence in problem-solving methods and data collection. Learns to apply Design of Experiment techniques.
  • Builds climate of trust and respect; drives toward results.
  • Starts to develop effective relationships within the AP&C group.
  • Completes assigned technical projects with supervision and documents in lab notebooks and monthly progress reports.
  • Learns and develops expertise related to work group's technologies.
  • Presents project progress at project team level.
  • Protects intellectual property by maintaining appropriate records (e.g., lab notebook).
  • Participates in professional organizations.
  • Participates enthusiastically on project teams.
  • Recognizes and respects the importance of diverse viewpoints, essential for overcoming project-related obstacles and conflicts.
  • Professionally represents Bostik in interactions with external contacts.
  • Expands and uses internal and external networks through activities outside of immediate project work.
  • Regularly publishes/presents in journals/symposiums and communicates with business colleagues related to his/her field of research.
