Chemist - Mapleton, IL

Position: Chemist supporting manufacturing plant, wastewater operations, logistics, and quality department. The role is located in Mapleton, IL. Salary is $37.44 per hour. The position offers a short‑term incentive bonus and benefits including 401(k) plan, medical, dental, vision, life, disability insurance, paid time off, paid holidays, and paid sick leave.

Essential Job Functions

• Comply with all corporate and plant policies, procedures, guidelines, and work instructions pertaining to safety; attend mandatory safety meetings and training sessions, wearing proper PPE.
• Perform routine and non‑routine laboratory tests accurately and timely; record results in logbooks and systems.
• Ensure GDP is used within quality meetings at ALCOA standards, maintaining data accuracy, integrity, legibility, contemporaneity, originality, and identifiability.
• Conduct tasks in accordance with appropriate standard operating procedures and work instructions.
• Fill in gaps in the shift and wastewater schedule as needed, including 12‑hour shifts, overnight, and weekend shifts.
• Manage product release including packaging, raw materials, finished products, and bulk shipments.
• Perform calibrations and ISO9001 checks daily and monthly; perform weekly ISO9001 checks every Tuesday as needed.
• Identify areas of improvement within the quality department.
• Create batch numbers in SAP for the release of products for packaging and bulk shipments.
• Maintain laboratory equipment and consumables, such as gas cylinders.
• Perform data review and verification.
• Maintain proper housekeeping in your work area.
• Maintain and calibrate analytical instrumentation and reagents according to written procedures and schedules.
• Make, backfill, and restock reagents and standards as needed.
• Support wastewater testing as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Experience

• 3‑5 years experience in a laboratory setting.
• Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or another science discipline.
• Medical first responder certification or the ability to obtain it within one year (preferred).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Reliable time‑management skills and the experience to organize and coordinate multiple projects at once.
• Experience in wet chemistry, HPLC, GC, auto‑titrator, and COD preferred.
• High proficiency in Microsoft Office and other office productivity tools, with quickness to learn new software and systems.
