Job summary

NEXPERA in James River, VA is seeking a Chemical Operator to monitor and operate plant systems, ensuring safety and quality while following SOPs. The role involves startup/shutdown, inspection, and maintenance prep in both control room and field areas.

The operator will train new staff, perform laboratory analysis, and handle loading/unloading of railcars and totes. A 12‑hour rotating shift and adherence to safety procedures are required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma/GED equivalent.
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an industrial or manufacturing environment.
• Proficient with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs) and able to learn new systems.
• Willing and able to work 12-hour rotating shifts, including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays and short notice call-in if required.
• Willing and able to lift up to 50 lbs.
• Willing and able to work in a High Hazard environment; outdoors, indoors, elevated heights and confined spaces.
• Willing and able to acquire a boiler’s license and obtain forklift/similar certs.
• Willing and able to operate on-site equipment including trackmobile and yard-dog.

Responsibilities

• Start up and shut down plant systems and components (normal and emergency).
• Operate, monitor and control plant systems; inspect equipment and process conditions.
• Prepare equipment for maintenance work by isolating, clearing and locking out.
• Follow detailed operating, maintenance and safety procedures; adapt as needed.
• Troubleshoot equipment to restore normal operation.
• Analyze charts and logs to identify problems.
• Train new operators in safety and environmental principles.
• Perform loading/unloading of railcars, tank trucks and totes.
• Perform laboratory analysis of products.
• Clerical and shipping duties as required.
• Operate mobile equipment including manlifts, fork trucks, yard-dog and trackmobile.
• Recognize hazards and protect personnel and environment.
