Job summary

JobSquad in Fort Wayne, IN is seeking a Chemical Laboratory Technician to join our onsite laboratory team. The role involves samples collection from plating lines, performing chemical analyses, recording results, and maintaining lab equipment.

Salary ranges from $18 to $29 per hour DOE, with shifts 6am-4pm or 4pm-2am Monday through Thursday, and opportunities for growth in a metal finishing environment. High school diploma required; associates degree preferred; 1–3 years of lab experience

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; associate degree or related coursework preferred.
• 1–3 years of laboratory experience preferred; plating/metal finishing experience is a plus.
• On-the-job training provided for plating-specific testing methods.

Responsibilities

• Collect and prepare samples from plating lines, process tanks, and finished parts according to established sampling schedules.
• Perform routine chemical analyses (titration, spectrophotometry, pH/conductivity) on plating bath chemistries.
• Record test results accurately in laboratory logs or LIMS.
• Flag out-of-spec results to the Chemical Laboratory Manager and assist with follow-up testing.
• Maintain, clean, and upkeep laboratory equipment; report issues promptly.
• Support inspection of finished parts for plating quality characteristics.
• Document and investigate quality issues related to plating chemistry.
• Follow safety procedures and keep a clean, organized lab.

The JobSquad Solutions Team is currently looking for a Chemical Laboratory Technician to work at a company located in the Fort Wayne, IN area! Job Title: Chemical Laboratory Technician. Job Location: Fort Wayne. Pay and Hours for Job + Benefits: $18-$29 p/hr DOE 6am-4pm or 4pm-2am Mon-Thur.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Laboratory Testing

• Collect and prepare samples from plating lines, process tanks, and finished parts according to established sampling schedules and procedures.
• Perform routine chemical analysis (titration, spectrophotometry, pH/conductivity testing, and similar methods) on plating bath chemistries and process solutions.
• Record test results accurately and promptly in laboratory logs or laboratory information systems.
• Flag out-of-specification results to the Chemical Laboratory Manager and assist with follow-up testing as needed.
• Assist with sample analysis supporting wastewater treatment monitoring, as directed by the Chemical Laboratory Manager.
• Maintain, clean, and perform basic upkeep of laboratory equipment and testing instruments; report equipment issues promptly.

Quality Support

• Support inspection of finished parts for plating quality characteristics (e.g., thickness, adhesion, appearance) as directed.
• Assist in documenting and investigating quality issues or customer complaints related to plating chemistry, under the guidance of the Chemical Laboratory Manager.
• Help maintain organized, accurate laboratory records to support internal and customer quality audits.
• Follow established quality control procedures and checklists consistently for all testing activities.

Safety and Housekeeping

• Follow all laboratory safety procedures, including proper handling, labeling, and storage of laboratory chemicals.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory work area.
• Properly dispose of laboratory waste and chemicals in accordance with company procedures and environmental regulations.
• Report safety concerns, spills, or near-misses to the Chemical Laboratory Manager immediately.

This position has no supervisory responsibility. The Chemical Laboratory Technician works under the direct supervision of the Chemical Laboratory Manager.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate's degree or coursework in chemistry, laboratory science, or a related field preferred.
• 1-3 years of laboratory experience preferred; experience in a plating, metal finishing, or industrial laboratory setting is a plus.
• On-the-job training will be provided for plating-specific testing methods and procedures.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Basic understanding of chemistry and laboratory testing principles.
• Ability to follow detailed testing procedures accurately and consistently.
• Strong attention to detail and good recordkeeping habits.
• Basic math skills, including the ability to perform calculations related to titration and solution concentrations.
• Ability to work safely with laboratory and process chemicals.
• Basic computer skills for data entry and recordkeeping.
• Good communication skills for reporting results and flagging issues to the Laboratory Manager.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and work at lab benches for extended periods; ability to lift up to 25 lbs; ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including gloves, eye protection, and lab coats; occasional exposure to laboratory and process chemicals.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in the on-site chemical laboratory, with regular time on the production floor to collect samples. Exposure to laboratory chemicals, plating solutions, and related odors is expected; appropriate PPE and safety protocols must be followed at all times.
