Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific’s Unity Lab Services team seeks an upbeat Chemical Management Specialist to maintain chemical inventory, ensure labs stay stocked and compliant, and keep operations efficient. The role supports GMP and cold room environments while handling books, labels, and SDS documentation.

You will verify inventories, process shipments, and coordinate with EHS to uphold safety standards. Requires a high school diploma and 1 year of customer-service experience in lab or warehouse

Qualifications

• Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Teams).
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to read SDS and DOT labeling requirements.

Responsibilities

• Verify chemical inventory levels, locations, and expiration dates by bench audits and full-cycle counts.
• Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming chemical shipments according to guidelines and DOT regulations.
• Pick, pack, and stage chemical orders for distribution or disposal with 100% accuracy.
• Read and interpret Safety Data Sheets to apply handling, storage, and spill-response procedures.
• Identify and help resolve discrepancies in chemical handling or inventory records.
• Collaborate with EHS and team members to uphold safety standards and train new staff.
• May perform other duties as assigned by management.

We’re seeking an upbeat Chemical Management Specialist to manage chemical inventory and ensure labs remain stocked, compliant, and running efficiently.

A day in the Life:

• Verify chemical inventory levels, locations, andexpirationdates by performing bench audits and full-cycle counts using barcode scanners.

• Receive, inspect, label, and store incoming chemical shipments according to compatibility guidelines and DOT regulations.

• Pick, pack, and stage chemical orders for distribution or disposal,maintaining100% accuracy and adherence to storage protocols.

• Read and interpret Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to applyaccuratehandling, storage, and spill-response procedures.

• Identifyand help resolve discrepancies in chemical handling, storage conditions, or inventory records.

• Collaborate closely with Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) and team members to uphold safety standards, refine workflows, and train new team members.

• May perform other duties as assigned by management.

Keys to Success:

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required.

Experience

• Minimum 1 year ofcustomer-serviceexperience in a laboratory, warehouse, or similar environment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

• Proficiencywith Microsoft 365 applications (Excel, Outlook, Teams).

• Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and a safety-first approach.

• Ability to read and understand SDS documentation and DOT labeling requirements.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• The role primarily involves working independently at customer sites, which may include areas with chemical-based allergens like penicillin and tetracycline.

• Personal protective equipment, such as lab coats, coveralls, facemasks, and steel-toe shoes, is oftenrequired.

• The position requires regular lifting of 30-40lbs(up to 50lbsoccasionally) and using equipment like pushcarts and forklifts to move up to 100 lbs.

• Standing, walking, and manual material handling of chemical containers are frequent activities, sometimes in varied temperature environments.

• Overtime work may also be necessary.
