Job summary

Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is seeking a college student for a Summer 2027 internship in Knoxville, TN. This is a paid, in-person, full-time opportunity designed to provide hands-on engineering experience and mentorship.

You will assist with process modeling, PFDs, HMBs, and equipment specifications, and gain work with ChemCAD. Applicants must be pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's in Chemical Engineering, maintain a 3.0+ GPA, and be at least 18.

• GPA 3.0 or higher.

Responsibilities

• Assist in process modeling of steady state, batch, and dynamic processes.
• Support chemical process development and pilot testing.
• Create PFDs and HMBs and provide equipment specifications.
• Estimate air emissions and waste generation rates.

What We're Looking For:

Are you a hard-working and dedicated college student who is looking to gain valuable work experience in your field? Do you want to gain experience while learning from great mentors and leaders? Barge Design Solutions is looking for someone like you to intern with us next summer.

Location: Knoxville, TN

Number of positions available: 1

Schedule: Summer 2027

You will be involved in the following types of projects:

• Modifications of chemical manufacturing processes to resolve bottlenecks and increase production capacity
• Evaluation of treatment processes to solve air emission or wastewater discharge issues
• Specification of utility systems such as compressed air, nitrogen, distilled water, hot oil systems, and steam supply

You will gain experience in:

• Process modeling of steady stat, batch, and dynamic processes using ChemCAD
• Chemical process development and pilot testing support
• Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs)
• Heat and Material Balances (HMBs)
• Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs)
• Functional equipment specifications
• Estimates for air emissions and waste generation rates

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree from an accredited university
• Major: Chemical Engineering
• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher
• You must be at least 18 years of age.

Additional Details:

• This is a paid internship working full-time hours (40) per week.
• This is an in-person work opportunity.
• Interns are not eligible for company benefits.
• Housing assistance is not provided.
