Job summary

Barge Design Solutions, Inc. is offering a Mechanical Engineering Internship in Knoxville, TN for Summer 2027. This in-person, paid role targets students pursuing a Mechanical Engineering degree and provides exposure to building design projects, water/wastewater structures, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Interns will work on piping, HVAC, and utility plans, perform engineering calculations, review shop drawings, and support engineers with deliverables while using Autodesk REVIT.

Qualifications

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Preference for students not requiring sponsorship
• At least 18 years old

Responsibilities

• Assist in preparation of piping, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and utility plans, sections, and details
• Perform routine manual calculations for piping design (pressure drop, pipe sizing) and valve/inline fittings selection
• Review construction submittals such as shop drawings and product data
• Support Engineers in completing project deliverables
• Collaborate with team members on new ideas and innovations
• Gain experience using Autodesk REVIT in real project work

Location: Knoxville, TN
Number of positions available: 1
Schedule: Summer 2027

You will be involved in the following types of projects:

• Industrial and commercial building design projects
• Water/wastewater treatment structures

You will gain experience in:

• Preparation of piping, plumbing, HVAC, fire protection, and utility plans, sections, and details
• Routine manual calculations regarding piping design for liquids and gases such as calculation of pressure drop and pipe sizing, and the selection of valves and inline fittings
• Reviewing construction submittals, such as shop drawings and product data
• Supporting Engineers in completing project deliverables
• Collaborating with team members on new ideas/innovations
• Using Autodesk REVIT

Education & Experience Qualifications:

• Must be pursuing a Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree from an accredited university
• Major: Mechanical Engineering
• Preference will be given to students that do not require sponsorship
• Current GPA of 3.0 or higher
• You must be at least 18 years of age.

Additional Details:

• This is a paid internship working full-time hours (40) per week.
• This is an in-person work opportunity.
• Interns are not eligible for company benefits.
