Job summary

X-energy is hiring a mid-level Chemical Engineer at its Gaithersburg, MD site to support HTGR system design, analysis, and integration. You will focus on thermal-hydraulic and chemical process modeling using Aspen Plus, COMSOL, and related tools.

You'll collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams, lead technical reviews, and contribute to safety analyses and licensing efforts while mentoring junior engineers in a fast-paced nuclear program.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering or related field.
• Five years of chemical engineering experience; advanced degrees may substitute.
• A Ph.D. can substitute for up to three years of experience.
• Experience at X-energy or similar nuclear systems is a plus.
• Proficiency with process simulation software (Aspen Plus, HYSYS, ChemCAD).
• Knowledge of OSHA/EPA standards and safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate across HTGR system development programs and phases.
• Provide technical oversight to design teams and ensure quality.
• Lead and participate in design reviews for chemical and thermal-hydraulic systems.
• Translate customer needs into functional engineering specifications.
• Develop and validate thermal-hydraulic models for HTGR cores and plants.
• Perform heat and mass balance analyses for steady-state and transient conditions.
• Evaluate high-temperature materials and reactor components underHTGR conditions.
• Support licensing, QA, and safety analyses in accordance with NRC/ASME.
