Job Overview

The Chief Engineer oversees all physical plant and building operations for large facilities, including power plant systems, infrastructure maintenance, and engineering staff supervision. This role requires expert-level technical knowledge, leadership capability, and compliance with security standards for a high‑security federal environment.

Pay Rate

57.25 / hour

Responsibilities

• Manage physical plant and building operations, including power plants supporting large facilities.
• Supervise engineering and maintenance personnel with responsibility for daily operations, troubleshooting, and long-term planning.
• Ensure compliance with safety, regulatory, and technical standards.
• Oversee maintenance, repairs, and operation of critical building systems and equipment.
• Coordinate with leadership, contractors, and inspectors on operational requirements and facility support.
• Maintain readiness to operate within a facility requiring Secret-level clearance.

Job Requirements

• Certifications in equipment operations.
• Five (5) or more years of supervisory experience in physical plant and building operations, including power plants for large facilities.
• Active Secret Security Clearance.
• Must hold one of the following:
• Association for Facilities Engineers (AFE) Certificate as an Operating Professional Engineer (OPE)
• United States Coast Guard Third Assistant Engineer License (Steam, Motor, or Gas Turbine vessels of any horsepower)
• U.S. State Stationary Engineer License
• District of Columbia 3rd Class Steam Engineer License (must obtain 1st Class License within two years of hire).
