Job summary

The Chassis Mechanic role at TRAC Intermodal involves performing mechanical repairs and inspections in a shop environment, including brake work, welding, and parts replacement on chassis and containers.

Responsibilities include FMCSA chassis inspections, tire changes, inventory maintenance, and adherence to safety standards while collaborating with management to address space, backlog, and workflow issues in an environment exposed to outdoor weather conditions.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• 2+ years of chassis mechanics experience and repair methods.
• Some experience with minor container repairs.
• At least 1 year of MIG and/or ARC welding experience.
• Knowledge of AAR, IICL and DOT rules and criteria.
• Ability to work independently without direct supervision.
• Must pass pre-employment background check and drug screening.
• Proficiency with computer systems (Office and IDCS systems for rail).
• Ability to read and write legibly.
• Ability to review a written plan and execute to standards.
• Ability to work in a process-oriented, team atmosphere.
• Must meet minimum FMCSA requirements.
• Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Perform FMCSA chassis inspections
• Perform container chassis repairs of all types
• Perform light container repairs
• Change tires as necessary
• Maintain Parts Inventory
• Strictly adhere to all safety rules and regulations
• Communicate with management on space requirements, backlog of work, inventory issues, etc.
• Work and repair chassis according to TRAC Chassis Pool Repair Guidelines
