Job summary

TRAC Intermodal in Bedford Park, IL seeks a Chassis Mechanic to perform mechanical repairs and inspections in an over-the-road environment. You will handle brake jobs, welding, cutting with a torch, and replace parts on chassis with standard repair tools, plus minor container repairs as needed.

Responsibilities include FMCSA inspections, tire changes, inventory maintenance, and strict adherence to safety rules.

Qualifications

• At least 2 years of chassis mechanics experience and repair methods.
• Some container repair experience and MIG/ARC welding exposure.
• Knowledge of FMCSA, AAR, IICL and DOT rules and criteria.
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Proficiency with Office and IDCS systems for rail.
• Able to read and write legibly and follow written plans.
• Team-oriented with ability to work in a process-driven environment.
• Valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record; pass DOT-related checks.

Responsibilities

• Perform FMCSA chassis inspections.
• Perform container chassis repairs of all types.
• Perform light container repairs.
• Change tires as necessary.
• Maintain Parts Inventory.
• Strictly adhere to all safety rules and regulations.
• Communicate with management on space requirements, backlog of work, inventory issues, etc.
• Work and repair chassis according to TRAC Chassis Pool Repair Guidelines.
