Job summary

6AM City, LLC is seeking a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator to join our IT team in Charlotte, NC. The role is full-time and in-office, requiring relocation to or residence in the Charlotte area.

You will manage large SQL Server databases, implement Always-On AG, and optimize performance across TB-scale data environments. The ideal candidate has strong SQL scripting and tuning skills, experience with sharding/partitioning, and familiarity with Azure-based SQL services.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science/Information Technology or related field.
• Proven experience as a Microsoft SQL Server Database Administrator.
• In-depth knowledge of Always-On Availability Groups.
• Experience managing TB-sized databases in production.
• Strong SQL scripting and performance tuning skills.
• Familiarity with database security best practices.
• Azure certifications and experience deploying SQL Server on Azure are a plus.
• Relevant certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate) are a plus.

Responsibilities

• Database Administration: manage, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server databases, ensuring high availability and performance.
• Sharding or partitioning: design and implement sharding for scalable data distribution.
• Azure SQL Server: manage SQL instances and databases in Azure.
• Backup and recovery: develop robust backup/recovery strategies and test restores.
• Performance tuning: analyze and optimize queries, indexing, and config; identify bottlenecks.
• Security: implement database security measures and stay current with best practices.
• Collaboration: work with developers and admins on database-related projects.
