Job summary

UAB Medicine is seeking a dedicated RN nurse leader for the 6 West Post-Operative Bariatric unit in Birmingham, AL. You will coordinate staffing, supervise shifts, and ensure high-quality patient care for post-surgical patients, including gastric bypass and sleeve gastrectomy cases.

The role requires active RN licensure in Alabama, BLS, ACLS/PALS as unit demands, and a track record in clinical leadership and staff development. Full-time nights, no weekends, with comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

• Licensed RN with active Alabama license.
• BLS certification required; ACLS/PALS may be required for some units.
• Experience in leadership roles and staffing coordination preferred.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring clinical objectives and quality patient care.
• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during shifts; participate in performance evaluations.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop care assignments to ensure appropriate patient care.
• Evaluate effectiveness of patient care and address issues impacting outcomes.

Position Overview

6 West, Post-Operative Bariatric, is a 24-bed unit that focuses on patients who are post-operative weight loss surgery. The most common procedures that are performed on the patients are a Gastric Bypass and Sleeve Gastrectomy.

• Schedule: Full Time Nights, No Weekends; 3 - 12 hour shifts per week, 7pm - 7am

Job Description

Coordinate unit staffing and provide leadership while ensuring implementation of clinical objectives and quality patient care in assigned area.

• Assign, direct, educate and monitor nursing and support staff during assigned shift. Contribute to or perform performance evaluations of staff.
• Assess daily patient care needs and develop and distribute patient care assignments, ensuring that population appropriate patient care is given.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of patient care and identify any issues that affect desired patient outcomes.
• Responds to complaints about patient care and manage through established channels.
• May provide input for hiring, training, directing, development and evaluating of staff.

Qualifications

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• BLS Provider obtained within 1 Month (30 days) of hire date or job transfer date required. American Heart Association or American Red Cross accepted.
• ACLS and PALS may be reguired in some units (Step Down, ED and ICU) within 6-months of date hire or transfer.
• Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) by the Alabama Board of Nursing required.

Education

• Diploma from an accredited school/college of nursing and professional licensure/certification required. 1 year of cumulative job specific experience required
