Job summary

Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School seeks a Charge Person for its kitchen. This 10-month, 7 hours/day role (7:00am–2:00pm) involves meal prep, cooking, and supervising a kitchen team within a high-volume setting.

The ideal candidate has a HS diploma (Culinary degree preferred), 5+ years in similar environments, and ServSafe certification (or ability to obtain within 60 days). Proficiency in MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in high-volume kitchen experience.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and cook meals according to cycle menus and standard recipes.
• Lead, delegate, and manage a kitchen team to meet standards.
• Oversee ordering and inventory for a high-volume kitchen.
• Perform temperature checks and maintain Production Records/Kitchen Logs.
• Maintain sanitation and cleaning schedules for all kitchen areas and equipment.
• Interact professionally with students, staff, and school personnel.

Applications are being accepted from qualified local candidates for the Charge Person position at

Wintonbury Early Childhood Magnet School.

Work Year: 10-month position 184 days (including charge person and annual training, school opening, & cleaning day)

Work Day: 7 hours per day (33.75 hours/week) 7:00am – 2:00pm – Time frame subject to change

Hourly Wage: $21.99 (Step 1 per UPSEU contract. Negotiable based on experience, subject to union approval.)

Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications, and Duties:

• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• College degree; preferred specifically in Culinary Arts/Food Service Management.
• Five (5) or more years of full-service or institutional experience in a high volume kitchen
• ServSafe Certification required or ability to obtain within 60 days of hire.
• Prep and cook meals according to cycle menu as needed. Be proficient in recipe procedures, measurement conformity, and cooking techniques.
• Ability to lead, delegate, and manage a team to perform up to standards set forth by management. Assist in implementation and follow-up on general worker task lists and sanitation cleaning schedules for all kitchen areas and equipment.
• Minimum of three years of ordering and inventory for high-volume kitchen
• Responsible for all general food preparation, serving, cleaning, and sanitation procedures.
• Perform temperature checks during production period to ensure food is being cooked, prepared, and held at proper temperatures. Maintain daily Production Records and Kitchen Logs.
• Demonstrate the ability to deal effectively and courteously with students, staff, and school personnel
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite products and the ability to learn new software programs
• Ability to lift and carry up to 40 pounds. Assist with putting away vendor deliveries.
• Ability to add and subtract two-digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10s and 100s.
