Description
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Charge Nurse assists the Nursing Supervisor in managing total patient care within the nursing unit and oversees unit management.
RATE (depends on licensure):
Rates: $30.00 to $42.00 depending on experience and licensure, plus shift differentials.
DUTIES:
- Carry out administrative and patient care duties during their shift.
- Supervise and assume responsibility for the actions and care provided by STNAs.
- Follow department policies and procedures, interpreting them to staff, medical personnel, patients, and the public.
- Work on the designated unit as assigned by the D.O.N., A.D.O.N., or Supervisor.
- Review the 24-hour report sheet for patient care updates.
- Conduct walking rounds and supervise N.A. care.
- Administer medication (including IV) and treatments as per physician orders.
- Address patients' spiritual or psychological needs with available resources.
- Assist with patient admission and discharge processes.
ADMINISTRATIVE DUTIES:
- Provide and receive shift reports.
- Transcribe physician orders.
- Respond to telephone inquiries.
- Evaluate patient needs and update care plans accordingly.
- Manage patient admission procedures when the documentation nurse is unavailable.
- Coordinate patient transfers and discharges, including transportation and documentation.
- Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record.
GENERAL UNIT DUTIES:
- Assist with cleaning and equipment maintenance.
- Communicate effectively with all departments.
- Ensure safety and cleanliness of the unit.
- Greet and direct visitors.
PERSONNEL REQUIREMENTS:
- Valid nursing license in the state of employment.
- Meet state-mandated continuing education requirements.
- Maintain good physical and mental health.
- Have a genuine interest in working with the elderly.
- Willing to perform non-professional duties.
- Remain level-headed and responsive in emergencies.
- Prioritize patient needs above personal desires or judgments.
- Serve as a patient advocate at all times.
