Job summary

The Sisters of Mercy of the Americas in Belmont, NC invites a Part-Time Charge Nurse to join our mission-driven care team. You will lead a night-shift crew (7pm–7am, 12-hour shifts) every weekend, oversee CNAs/NA s/HHAs, and ensure the plan of care delivers high-quality, compassionate service to our Sisters.

Qualified candidates hold an active LPN license, BLS, and at least two years of nursing experience, preferably with geriatric or dementia care, plus supervisory capability and proficiency

Qualifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience, preferably geriatric/dementia care.
• Current LPN license and BLS certification required.
• Experience supervising or delegating care to others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Responsibilities

• Implement the plan of care and supervise CNAs, NAs, and HHAs on duty.
• Provide person-centered care focused on wellness, comfort, and dignity.
• Administer medications and treatments per standards and policies.
• Monitor vital signs, intake/output, and condition changes.
• Coordinate with team for daily living activities and care tasks.
• Ensure safety, infection control, and end-of-life practices.
• Document accurately and communicate updates to Clinical Manager.
• Support staff orientation, training, and continuing education.
• Assist Sisters with appointments and enrichment activities.

Job Summary

The Charge Nurse is responsible for implementing the plan of care for each Sister, providing high-quality clinical services, and supervising CNAs, NAs, and HHAs on duty. This role requires leadership, clinical expertise, and a compassionate approach to care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide person-centered care focused on wellness, comfort, and dignity.
• Administer medications and treatments according to professional nursing standards and departmental policies.
• Monitor and document vital signs, intake/output, and condition changes.
• Supervise, delegate, and educate CNAs, NAs, and HHAs to ensure thorough and compassionate care.
• Assist Sisters with daily living activities including dressing, bathing, grooming, ambulation, and meals.
• Ensure compliance with safety protocols, infection control, and end-of-life care practices.
• Coordinate and accompany Sisters to medical appointments and therapies.
• Maintain accurate documentation and communicate updates to the Clinical Manager.
• Participate in staff orientation, training, and continuing education.
• Support Activities and Enrichment programming for Sisters.

Qualifications

Required:

• Minimum of a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with valid state license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience in nursing, preferably with geriatric or dementia care.
• Experience supervising or delegating care to others.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).

Preferred

• Experience in healthcare or residential care settings.
• Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively with a team.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift, pull, or push up to 50 lbs.
• Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
• Use of proper body mechanics and safety equipment for resident care.
