Responsibilities
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to ensure the safe delivery of care.
- The Charge Nurse acts as a caregiver and may take modified patient care assignments.
- Practices in a clinical environment supported by Nurse Managers and leadership, guided by the WellStar Shared Governance Model and the Professional Nursing Practice Model, emphasizing evidence-based practice and research.
- Contributes to establishing practices that ensure excellence in patient care, efficient resource use, and leadership tasks such as staffing, patient flow, clinical expertise, physician rounding, committee involvement, and survey readiness.
- Serves as a resource to other areas, promoting operational understanding and hospital awareness.
- Supports the growth and development of team members, fostering departmental skills and expertise.
- Builds rapport between nurses and physicians, serving as a role model.
- Upholds licensure, knowledge, and practice standards as per the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and ANA Code of Ethics.
- Supports service excellence, patient advocacy, and system policies.
- Utilizes clinical expertise to deliver safe, age-appropriate, culturally sensitive care and partners in care delivery.
- Participates proactively as part of an interdisciplinary team ensuring high-quality patient care.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree/Diploma). A BSN is preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Active RN license in Georgia
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association
- National certification in specialty area preferred (may require additional certifications like ACLS, PALS)
Experience
- At least 1 year of nursing experience required; 2 years preferred.
- Experience as relief charge nurse with clinical expertise is preferred.
