Responsibilities
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to ensure safe and successful delivery of care.
- The Charge Nurse acts as a caregiver and may take a modified patient care assignment.
- Practices in a clinical environment administered by Nurse Managers and supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model.
- The practice framework is guided by the WellStar Professional Nursing Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research.
- RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by the WellStar Core Competencies.
- The role involves establishing and maintaining practices that ensure excellence in patient care, efficient resource use, and leadership tasks such as staff scheduling, unit patient flow, clinical consultation, physician rounding, committee participation, survey readiness, and other tasks assigned by the manager.
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse serves as a resource for operational understanding and hospital/facility awareness.
- Supports the growth and development of team members to enhance department skills and inspire expertise.
- Builds rapport between nurses and physicians, exemplifies professionalism, and acts as a role model.
- Upholds the standards outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association’s Code of Ethics.
- As part of the patient services team, advocates for the patient, adheres to system policies, and supports service excellence.
- Possesses advanced clinical expertise to support safe, age-appropriate, culturally sensitive patient care and acts as a partner in care.
- Participates proactively in an interdisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, safe patient care for patients, families, and significant others.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Baccalaureate degree in nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Current active RN license in Georgia.
- Current BLS card from the American Heart Association on the first day of employment.
- National certification in the area of specialty preferred; additional certifications such as ACLS or PALS may be required depending on the service area.
Experience
- At least one year of nursing experience required; two years preferred.
- Experience as relief charge nurse with clinical expertise is preferred.

- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Basic computer skills and ability to utilize technology to support clinical care.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused, patient-centered manner.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Clinical and leadership experience to ensure competence and credibility.
