Responsibilities
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse directs and oversees the daily activities of the unit on an assigned shift to ensure safe and successful patient care delivery.
- The Charge Nurse provides direct patient care and may take on a modified patient care assignment.
- Practices in a clinical environment supported by Nurse Managers and leadership, guided by the WellStar Shared Governance Model.
- The practice framework is based on the WellStar Professional Nursing Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research.
- RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by WellStar Core Competencies.
- The role involves establishing and maintaining practices that promote excellence in patient care, efficient resource use, and leadership tasks such as staff scheduling, patient flow management, clinical expertise, physician rounding, committee involvement, survey readiness, and other duties assigned by the manager.
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse serves as a resource for operational and hospital/facility knowledge.
- Supports the growth and development of team members to build skills and inspire expertise.
- Builds rapport between nurses and physicians to enhance service quality and acts as a role model.
- Must be licensed, knowledgeable, and uphold nursing practices per the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, the Scope of Practice, and the ANA Code of Ethics.
- Upholds patient voice, system policies, and service excellence as part of the patient services team.
- Possesses advanced clinical expertise to support safe, age-appropriate, culturally aware patient care and acts as a partner in care.
- Participates proactively in a multidisciplinary team to ensure high-quality, safe patient care for patients, families, and significant others.

Qualifications
Minimum Education- Graduate of an accredited nursing program (Associate Degree/Diploma). BSN preferred.
Licensure/Certification- Current Georgia RN license
- Current BLS from the American Heart Association
- National certification in specialty area preferred (may require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS).
Minimum Experience- At least 1 year of nursing experience; 2 years preferred.
- Experience as relief charge nurse with clinical expertise is preferred.
Skills- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking)
- Basic computer skills and ability to utilize technology in clinical care
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and decision-making skills
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team
- Effective oral and written communication skills
- Clinical and leadership experience to ensure competence and credibility in leading others
