Responsibilities
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse is responsible for directing and overseeing the daily activities of the unit during an assigned shift to ensure the safe and successful delivery of care.
- The Charge Nurse acts as a caregiver and may take on a modified patient care assignment.
- Practices in a clinical environment overseen by Nurse Managers and supported through the WellStar Shared Governance Model.
- The practice framework is guided by the WellStar Professional Nursing Practice Model, evidence-based practice, and research.
- RN competencies are derived from these models and supported by WellStar Core Competencies.
- The role involves establishing and maintaining practices that ensure excellence in patient care, efficient resource use, and leadership tasks such as staff scheduling, unit patient flow, clinical expertise, physician rounding, committee involvement, survey readiness, and other tasks assigned by the manager.
- The RN Clinical Charge Nurse serves as a resource for operational functionality and hospital/facility awareness.
- Assists in the growth and development of team members to enhance department skills and inspire expertise.
- Builds rapport between nurses and physicians to ensure continued quality service and serves as a role model.
- Upholds nursing practice standards as outlined by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act and the American Nurses Association's Code of Ethics.
- Supports system policies and service excellence goals as a member of the patient services team.
- Possesses advanced clinical expertise to support safe, age-appropriate, culturally sensitive patient care and acts as a partner in care.
- Participates proactively in an interdisciplinary team to deliver individualized, high-quality, safe patient care.

Qualifications
Minimum Education
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program with an Associate Degree or Diploma in Nursing.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Current Georgia RN license.
- Current BLS certification from the American Heart Association.
- National certification in the specialty area preferred (may require additional certifications such as ACLS, PALS).
Experience
- At least one year of nursing experience required; two years preferred.
- Experience as relief charge nurse with clinical expertise preferred.

- Proficiency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Basic computer skills and ability to utilize technology to support clinical care.
- Strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and decision-making skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team-focused, patient-centered manner.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Clinical and leadership experience ensuring competence and credibility.
