Job summary

Camber Mental Health in Olathe, KS is seeking a Charge Nurse (RN) for night shift to lead patient care and guide staff in a pediatric behavioral health setting. You will coordinate with providers, supervise licensed and non-licensed staff, and ensure safety and a therapeutic environment while delivering direct patient care.

The Charge Nurse oversees shift operations, promotes clinical excellence, supports staff development, and participates in committees.

Qualifications

  • RN license in Kansas (state).
  • Associate degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience; leadership experience a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead nursing staff to maintain staffing ratios and high-quality care.
  • Coordinate care with providers, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
  • Serve as on-shift leader in absence of management.
  • Lead crisis response and ensure a safe, therapeutic environment.
  • Coach and develop staff; provide performance feedback.
  • Maintain confidential, timely documentation and communication.
  • Deliver direct patient care and model best practices.

Position Summary

The Charge Nurse oversees and coordinates patient care activities during the assigned shift, providing direction to both licensed and non-licensed nursing personnel. This role plays a key part in staff development, performance evaluation, and maintaining a high standard of care. You will serve as the on-site leader in the absence of management, support crisis response efforts, and help ensure a safe, therapeutic environment for all patients.

What You'll Do
  • Lead, organize, and direct nursing staff to ensure appropriate staffing ratios and high-quality care
  • Coordinate services with providers, patients, families, and interdisciplinary teams
  • Act as the on-shift leader, maintaining accountability for program operations
  • Monitor program safety and lead crisis response when needed
  • Support staff through coaching, training, and performance feedback
  • Maintain clear, timely, and confidential documentation and communication
  • Provide direct patient care while modeling best practices
  • Participate in staff meetings, committees, and ongoing program development
  • Keep leadership informed of shift activities, concerns, and outcomes
What You Bring-
Education
  • Associate degree in Nursing required; BSN preferred
Licensure/Certification
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Kansas
  • ANCC Psychiatric Nursing Certification preferred
  • Valid driver's license and auto insurance required
Experience
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Registered Nurse
Preferred Experience
  • Previous charge nurse or leadership experience; pediatric behavioral health experience
  • Experience with electronic medication administration records (eMAR) and electronic health records (EHR)
