Job description

About Us:

The Perioperative Department at Valley Children’s Hospital is a robust division, incorporating many procedural areas and their associated support services. Periop supports every service line within the hospital, providing care to patients in the Central Valley and its surrounding areas and collaborates with outlying facilities to accomplish our mission to provide the best care to our patients, always.

The Day Surgery process begins with pre-op admitting of the patient, which is inclusive of assessing the patient pre-surgery and preparing them for their surgical day. The most common surgeries are ENT followed by orthopedics and general surgeries and the patients range in age from newborn to young adult.

Post-op phase II is a separate area from the admitting location and requires an entirely different set of skills. This phase of recovery occurs when the patient is awake and transferred from the recovery room to day surgery post-op where the patient is reunited with family and we begin preparing for discharge.

Periop as a whole employs a vast number of skilled individuals within various units, including registered nurses (RNs), operating room technicians (ORTs), special procedure technicians, sterile processing technicians, imaging technicians, and more. Each division works to provide their team with advancement opportunities that encourage self-development, offer process improvements, and ultimately work to improve outcomes for our patients.

Job Summary:

This position is accountable for managing the overall operations of a defined patient care unit during an assigned shift. The incumbent is accountable for monitoring, evaluation, and directing patient care provided by staff, coordinating activities of the patient care unit, making staff assignments and assisting with the development and evaluation of staff members.
