Job Description

The Charge Nurse serves as the clinical leader and working supervisor of the Ambulatory Surgery Center (ASC). This position is responsible for coordinating daily patient care operations, supervising clinical staff, ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards, and promoting a safe, efficient, and patient-centered environment. The Charge Nurse functions as a clinical resource for staff while maintaining accountability for quality, safety, and operational excellence throughout the perioperative continuum.

Responsibilities
  • Oversees and coordinates the activities of nursing staff, including assigning tasks and delegating responsibilities.
  • Provides leadership, mentorship, and support to staff members.
  • Participates in the hiring, training, and evaluation of nursing staff.
  • Ensures adherence to policies, procedures, and standards of care.
  • Administers medications and treatments according to established protocols.
  • Monitors patient progress and communicates effectively with patients, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed and maintains competency in perioperative nursing practices.
  • Assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates individualized patient care.
  • Ensures appropriate patient preparation, recovery, discharge, and follow-up processes.
  • Administers medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, facility policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Communicates effectively with patients, families, physicians, anesthesia providers, and interdisciplinary team members.
  • Maintains complete, accurate, and timely documentation in the electronic medical record.
  • Assists in maintaining compliance with ACHC, CMS, OSHA, HIPAA, state licensing requirements, and facility policies and procedures.
  • Participates in quality assessment and performance improvement (QAPI) activities.
  • Supports infection prevention and control initiatives and monitors adherence to infection control practices.
  • Assists with accreditation surveys, inspections, audits, and corrective action plans.
  • Participates in incident reporting, risk management activities, and patient safety investigations.
Qualifications
  • Current, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Current ACLS certification required.
  • PALS certification required when pediatric patients are treated within the facility.
  • Minimum three (3) years of perioperative nursing experience required.
  • Previous ambulatory surgery center experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership, charge nurse, or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Experience with eClinicalWorks (Preferred).
Schedule
  • Monday – Thursday, generally 7:00 AM – 5:00 PM CST. Work hours may vary based on surgical schedule, patient volume, and operational needs.
  • Full-time On-site within an ambulatory surgery center setting.
