Job summary

USPI Arizona Specialty Hospital in Phoenix seeks a Charge Entry Specialist to accurately enter charge data for surgery and imaging patients, verifying charges against medical records and applying modifiers and CPT codes as needed.

You will support revenue cycle reporting and ensure timely charge entry while maintaining compliance with Joint Commission and Medicare requirements. This is an on-site, full-time role requiring attention to detail and strong Cerner/Microsoft Office skills.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or GED.
• Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.
• Willingness to participate in goal-setting and educational activities for own growth and advancement.
• Experience in a medical business office, medical records, or accounts receivable.
• Computer skills in word processing, integrated database and other functions; Cerner and Microsoft Office preferred.
• Ability to utilize and understand mathematical calculations.

• Knowledge of medical terminology, customer service and telephone etiquette.
• Knowledge of healthcare related charging practices.
• Ability to relate and work effectively with others.
• Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Job Summary

Under the direction of the Business Office Manager, the Charge Entry Specialist is responsible for accurately entering all charge entry data for surgery and imaging patients, ensuring the capture of all charges related to patient visits.

Duties

• Use of Cerner or other automated systems; capturing accurate patient chargeable supplies, pharmaceuticals, OR Charges, PACU charges, and implant charges by comparing charge sheets to the medical record and reviewing the record for documentation with the submitted charges
• Ability to add specific data such as modifiers, payer specific information such as date of injury and CPT codes.
• Responsible for managing various revenue cycle related reporting such as volume and discrepancy and closing of charge batches across the system.
• Achieves departmental goals regarding charge entry in a timely manner and works to assure ethical compliance associated with charge capture.
• Will work with medical records and billing to maintain accurate records to facilitate valid reports regarding billing and collections.
• Adheres to hospital policies regarding time and attendance, punctuality, meal breaks, and restperiods.
• Maintains a professional appearance and adheres to hospital and department dress code at alltimes.
• Performs other duties commensurate with experience, assigned by the Business OfficeManager.
