Job summary

  • Possession of a current EPA 608 certification at the universal level
  • Achieve a passing score of either CTE Literacy Skills or Communication and Literacy Skills
  • Must demonstrate the ability to work with students, staff, administrators, parents, and the public in creating an atmosphere where individuals feel welcome and respected.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team and independently.
  • Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Must be comfortable using computers and software.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.
  • May have such alternatives to the above as the Superintendent-Director deems appropriate and acceptable.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for the delivery of appropriate instruction in accordance with department goals and objectives following proven procedures.
  • Organize and deliver instruction sequentially following the Massachusetts VTE Curriculum Frameworks outlined in the Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration occupational area under the Construction Cluster and utilizing Competency Based Education methods.
  • Provide instruction in the following areas of this trade: Industry Quality Standards, Design Process, Problem Solving, Equipment, Manufacturing, Measuring.
  • Provide the latest safety training to students and work with them to achieve OSHA certification.
  • Display and promote safe working practices at all times.
  • Use methods of instruction that are welcoming, motivating and student centered.
  • Enter student grades and competency ratings in the identified district software system(s).
  • Create an environment that is conducive to learning.
  • Initiate and participate in departmental efforts to integrate instruction
  • Attend curriculum development, departmental, staff, and other required meetings.
  • Participate in activities that promote the best interest of our students and our school.
  • Comply with rigorous standards for professional improvement to keep current with modern technology and pedagogy.
  • Cooperate with department Vocational Training Leader and/or Vocational Curriculum Coordinator in fulfilling the mission of the department and institution.
  • Assist with tasks related to budget development, advisory committee logistics, curriculum development and tasks related to local, state and national assessments.
  • Maintain decorum and control of assigned students for the purposes of enhancing learning and insuring a safe and healthful environment in the classroom and throughout the school.
  • Abide by school procedures, rules and directives.
  • Become familiar with the schools systems and operating procedures.
  • Must adhere to strict confidentiality practices and policies at all times when accessing and discussing sensitive student information.
  • Utilize school support services as needed.
  • The candidate must be able to inspire excellence, achieve consensus and respond effectively to the system’s mission with humor and enthusiasm.

JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an awareness and understanding coupled with the basic skills and knowledge applicable to HVACR in business or public sector; and to instill in each pupil safe working habits, the importance of continuation of his/her education and the assets of reliability, competence, loyalty and dependability.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: This position may require long periods of standing and lifting up to 50lbs. The teacher may also be required to operate hand tools and motor equipment and may work in confined spaces with exposure to dust, smoke fumes and gases.
