Job description

Overview

Baylor St. Luke’s Medical Center is an internationally recognized leader in research and clinical excellence that has given rise to breakthroughs in cardiovascular care, neuroscience, oncology, transplantation, and more. Our team’s efforts have led to the creation of many research programs and initiatives to develop advanced treatments found nowhere else in the world. In our commitment to advancing standards in an ever-evolving healthcare environment, our new McNair Campus is designed around the human experience—modeled on evidence-based practices for the safety of patients, visitors, staff, and physicians. The 27.5-acre campus represents the future of healthcare through a transformative alliance focused on leading-edge patient care, research, and education. Our strong alliance with Texas Heart Institute and Baylor College of Medicine allows us to bring our patients a powerful network of care unlike any other. Our collaboration is focused on increasing access to care through a growing network of leading specialists and revolutionizing healthcare to save lives and improve the health of the communities we serve.

Responsibilities

Chaplains provide compassionate, supportive quality care to patients, families, caregivers, and staff. St. Luke's Health has the responsibility of treating those seeking care in a way that reverences human dignity. We are called to provide holistic care, an approach not limited to illness or ailment. Thus, we embrace the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual dimensions of the human person. Spiritual care has a full range of pastoral outreaches and responses, such as offering a listening presence, conducting spiritual assessments, and providing support in the face of powerlessness and pain from a new diagnosis, addressing grief and loss, as well as ensuring a ministry of prayer, ritual, and sacraments. Chaplains also exhibit an educational component to their roles, including consultation input as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The Chaplain will also work with the Pastoral Visitors and help coordinate their visits and duties within the hospital.

ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Provide spiritual assessment and pastoral care in assigned areas to patients, families, and staff.
  2. Interact with the patient care team on units assigned and wherever called to minister. Communicates necessary patient information to other team members through appropriate use of charting. Respects patient confidentiality.
  3. Participate in On-call rotation and leadership responsibilities for chapel services as needed, in coordination with other staff members.
  4. Promote and support departmental guidelines.
  5. Perform other related duties as assigned.
