The role you’ll contribute:

Promotes effective functioning of the pastoral/spiritual services within a facility. This includes primary oversight and responsibility to provide spiritual/pastoral care to patients, families, and staff. The role involves facilitating a climate conducive to the spiritual growth of patients, families, and hospital staff under the direction of the Director of Mission and Spiritual Care.

  • Serves on task forces, projects, and committees as assigned, including quality improvement initiatives.
  • Documents and completes all paperwork related to pastoral activities, ensuring compliance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
  • Assists in writing or updating policies and procedures as needed.
  • Coordinates the day-to-day pastoral services operation for the facility.
Qualifications

The expertise and experiences you’ll need to succeed:

Required qualifications:

  • Three years of experience in hospital chaplaincy with strong leadership, problem-solving, and conflict resolution skills. Effective interpersonal skills.
  • Critical thinking skills.
  • Affiliation and active involvement in an institutional faith body.
  • Master’s degree in a spiritual care-related field or an equivalent degree from an accredited college/university or institution affiliated with the applicant’s faith body.
  • Chaplains who have completed 4 units of CPE are expected to become board certified within 12 months; exceptions must be approved by their manager. Certification organizations include: National Association of Catholic Chaplains, Board of Chaplaincy Certification Inc, Association of Professional Chaplains, Spiritual Care Association (4 units), The Association of Certified Christian Chaplains, or equivalent. Maintaining current certification status is required.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Affiliation with an institutional faith body, preferably a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church for AdventHealth hospitals.
  • Completion of four units of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE). At hire, applicants must have at least one unit of CPE and agree to complete additional units as needed (at least one every six months) from a recognized accrediting agency listed by the U.S. Department of Education.
  • Fifty hours of continuing education in chaplaincy-related topics annually, unless enrolled in CPE or preparing for certification.
  • Formal study in a theologically related field is preferred.
