Job summary

The City of New York is seeking a Chaplain to provide religious services and counseling within its corrections system. The role requires ecclesiastical endorsement and clinical pastoral education, with knowledge of diverse faiths and meditation modalities.

Qualifications

• Ecclesiastical endorsement by the official endorsing agency of the candidate's faith or denomination, and by the Committee on Chaplaincies.
• Four Units of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education).
• Experience leading MBSR or similar meditation modalities is preferred.
• Familiarity with various religious beliefs is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Instruct religious education classes.
• Schedule religious congregate services in full compliance with all applicable laws, rules, directives, policies, protocols, and standards.
• Administer rites and/or sacraments.
• Conduct individual and group counseling, religious education study groups.
• Instruct religious education classes and study groups.
• Coordinate congregate and community engagement events with internal and external parties.
• Notify next of kin in cases of serious injury, illness, or death of a person in custody.
• Assist the counseling services unit with coordination of arrangements for wakes or funerals.
• Ensure that data and tracking sheets pertaining to chaplaincy services are entered accurately and submitted in a timely manner.
• Collaborate with other staff members in carrying out institutional programs.
• Ensure religious services offered comply with all applicable laws, rules, directives, policies, protocols and standards.
• Schedule, supervise, and support religious volunteers.
