Job summary

The Illinois Department of Corrections is seeking a dedicated Chaplain I to oversee spiritual development and religious support for all faiths within the facility. This is a full-time, in-office role located at Graham Correctional Center in Hillsboro, IL, with a union contract and competitive salary.

Ideal candidates hold an MDiv, ordination, and pastoral care experience, including clinical pastoral education units.

Qualifications

• Requires a Master of Divinity (MDiv) degree.
• Ordination, ecclesiastical endorsement, or licensing required.
• At least one year of pastoral care experience in a hospital, healthcare, or institutional setting.
• At least one unit of accredited clinical pastoral education.

Responsibilities

• Provides religious services for all faiths.
• Prepares reports and correspondence pertaining to chaplaincy area.
• Conducts individual and group counseling sessions for individuals in custody.
• Serves as Assistant Employee Assistance Program Coordinator and Backup Volunteer Services Coordinator.
• Prepares and conducts formal religious services, sacramental rites, and weekly worship services.
• Meets with Assistant Warden of Programs and the Manager of Chaplain Services weekly to review chaplaincy activities.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
