Job summary

The State of South Carolina Department of Corrections seeks a pastorally skilled chaplain to organize and deliver pastoral care for inmates, including worship services, sacraments, and crisis counseling. You will collaborate with volunteers from diverse faith traditions and coordinate with operations and administrative staff to support inmate well-being.

Required qualifications include a Master of Divinity, clinical pastoral education, and ordination with ecclesiastical endorsement.

Qualifications

• Master of Divinity from an accredited theological school is required.
• Clinical pastoral education and/or work experience in a clinical pastoral setting is required.
• Ordination as priest, minister, or rabbi with ecclesiastical endorsement is required.

Responsibilities

• Organizes, develops, implements and monitors pastoral care for inmates.
• Provides weekly worship, sacraments, crisis counseling for inmates and groups.
• Works with religious volunteers from multiple denominations and faith groups; coordinates with institutional staff.
