Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network (LVHN) seeks a dedicated chaplain to provide spiritual care and support to patients, families and staff during challenging times. This role serves as a liaison across hospital teams, offering crisis intervention, ethical guidance and compassionate presence across the Lehigh Valley campus network.

The chaplain will participate in ethics and palliative discussions, teach and mentor students and staff, and maintain ongoing relationships with care units.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Education, Theology or related field.
• Minimum of 3 years as a hospital chaplain.
• Familiarity with religious, spiritual beliefs across faiths.
• Ability to monitor and improve performance.

Responsibilities

• Provide assessment and spiritual care for patients, families and staff.
• Serve as liaison between hospital staff, patients and families during challenging times.
• Offer crisis support and guidance during traumas and critical decision moments.

Summary

Provides assessment and spiritual care through the appropriate intervention and referral of patients, families and staff. Serves as the liaison between the hospital staff, patients and families during challenging or traumatic situations.

Job Duties

• Maintains a pastoral presence by establishing and nurturing a ministry of accompaniment that assists patients/families in navigating challenging times in a meaningful and potentially transformative way.
• Assesses spiritual needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions with consideration to growth development needs and demographics.
• Promotes faith development, mindfulness, and reflective living as essential to the emergence of the whole person.
• Serves as crisis support to patients, families and staff during traumas and alerts and difficult decision-making moments.
• Administers education to students, staff, and volunteers regarding role of chaplains and spiritual care.
• Participates in ethics, palliative, hospice and/or cancer et al interdisciplinary teams as requested.
• Maintains an on-going relationship with the staff on designated rounding units.
• Offers invocations, blessings and benedictions at network functions or on-site memorial services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree Psychology, Education, Theology or related field.
• 3 years as a hospital or facilities chaplain.
• Familiarity with the religious and/or spiritual beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
• Skill at monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
• Use of good stewardship of time, energy, physical, and financial resources.

Additional Qualifications

• At least 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) in a clinical setting required, 2-4 units preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 7 lbs., continuous sitting >67%, frequent keyboard use/repetitive motion, frequent fine motor activity/wrist position deviation.
