Job summary

Lehigh Valley Health Network is recruiting a Chaplain to provide assessment and spiritual care for patients, families, and staff, serving as a liaison during challenging periods. The role includes crisis support and education about spiritual care across the network.

The position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Theology or a related field, at least 3 years as a hospital chaplain, and CPE units. Onsite work at LVHN facilities is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology, Education, Theology or related field.
• At least 3 years as a hospital or facilities chaplain.
• Familiarity with the religious and/or spiritual beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
• Skill at monitoring/assessing performance and managing resources.

Responsibilities

• Maintains a pastoral presence by establishing and nurturing a ministry of accompaniment that assists patients/families in navigating challenging times.
• Assesses spiritual needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions.
• Promotes faith development, mindfulness, and reflective living as essential to the emergence of the whole person.
• Serves as crisis support to patients, families and staff during traumas and difficult decision-making moments.
• Administers education to students, staff, and volunteers regarding role of chaplains and spiritual care.
• Participates in ethics, palliative, hospice and inter-disciplinary teams as requested.
• Maintains an on-going relationship with staff on designated rounding units.
• Offers invocations, blessings and benedictions at network functions or on-site memorial services.

Summary

Provides assessment and spiritual care through the appropriate intervention and referral of patients, families and staff. Serves as the liaison between the hospital staff, patients and families during challenging or traumatic situations.

Job Duties

• Maintains a pastoral presence by establishing and nurturing a ministry of accompaniment that assists patients/families in navigating challenging times in a meaningful and potentially transformative way.
• Assesses spiritual needs of patients and provides appropriate interventions with consideration to growth development needs and demographics.
• Promotes faith development, mindfulness, and reflective living as essential to the emergence of the whole person.
• Serves as crisis support to patients, families and staff during traumas and alerts and difficult decision-making moments.
• Administers education to students, staff, and volunteers regarding role of chaplains and spiritual care.
• Participates in ethics, palliative, hospice and/or cancer et al interdisciplinary teams as requested.
• Maintains an on-going relationship with the staff on designated rounding units.
• Offers invocations, blessings and benedictions at network functions or on-site memorial services.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree Psychology, Education, Theology or related field.
• 3 years as a hospital or facilities chaplain.
• Familiarity with the religious and/or spiritual beliefs and practices of various faiths, groups, and denominations.
• Skill at monitoring/assessing performance of yourself, other individuals, or organizations to make improvements or take corrective action.
• Use of good stewardship of time, energy, physical, and financial resources.

Additional Qualifications

• At least 1 unit of CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) in a clinical setting required, 2-4 units preferred.

Physical Demands

• Lift and carry 7 lbs., continuous sitting >67%, frequent keyboard use/repetitive motion, frequent fine motor activity/wrist position deviation.
