Job Summary
The Chaochow Telephone Interpreter provides real‑time interpretation between Chaochow and English speakers for a variety of industries, including healthcare, government, insurance, finance, utilities, travel and hospitality, general business, law enforcement, and emergency services. The role is conducted remotely from a home office.
Essential Job Functions
- Respond promptly to interpretation sessions and conduct them in a friendly, professional manner.
- Render correct concepts and meanings according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Maintain a professional demeanor throughout all sessions.
- Remain calm during sessions, especially when speakers are incoherent or upset, including emergency calls.
- Maintain punctuality and availability during assigned work hours.
- Follow client instructions and protocol to ensure client expectations are met with the Limited English‑speaking Person (LEP) without unauthorized interaction.
- Understand and apply industry terminology for medical, insurance, finance, and legal contexts.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and work effectively in a diverse environment.
- Handle highly emotional and/or stressful calls, including prolonged periods without breaks, while meeting company service standards.
- Adapt to technology enhancements that improve service delivery and client satisfaction.
Qualifications
- Fluency in Chaochow and English with strong linguistic and cultural proficiency.
- Ability to assess regional and accent differences to facilitate effective communication with the LEP.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note‑taking skills for high‑accuracy interpretation.
- Concentration and detachment from conversation content, remaining neutral and objective at all times.
- Experience handling sensitive subjects such as end‑of‑life conversations, pregnancy termination, vaccinations, and matters concerning sexual orientation and/or gender expression.
- Preferred education or work experience in teaching, language assessment, translation, or interpretation.
- Minimum age of 18 years.
- Legal authorization to work in the United States without future visa sponsorship.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to read and write Chaochow and English (highly preferred).
- Post‑offer background check and/or drug screen may be required.
Technical Requirements
- Dedicated personal device for business purposes.
- Desktop or laptop computers with Windows, macOS, or ChromeOS.
- Tablets (iPadOS or Android) and smartphones (iOS or Android) are acceptable.
- No Kaspersky, Huawei, or other restricted hardware.
- High‑speed internet connection: download ≥5Mbps, upload ≥3Mbps, ping ≤300ms, jitter ≤30ms.
- Access to a quiet workspace free from background noise or distractions.
Physical Requirements
- Operate keyboard and mouse while remaining in a stationary position in front of a computer for the majority of the workday.
- Operate required software and systems.
- Maintain sufficient manual dexterity for typing or writing tasks.
- Lift up to 26lbs as needed.
- Tolerate moderate noise levels (computer, audio, telephone).
Benefits and Working Conditions
