Job summary

Guardian US is seeking a channel manager to oversee end-to-end operation of key social and video channels from publishing to optimisation. You will work across editorial, audience and commercial teams to maximise reach and engagement, with a hybrid New York, NY placement and a salary of $110,000–$115,000.

Responsibilities include publishing across TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube, calendar planning, traffic monitoring, and platform best-practice enforcement, plus collaboration with Guardian

The channel manager oversees the end-to-end operation of our key social/video channels, managing publishing, scheduling, optimisation and platform best practices while working across editorial, audience and commercial teams to maximise reach and engagement.

Annual Salary: $110,000 - $115,000

Responsibilities
  • Publishing and optimisation: Managing the end-to-end publishing process across TikTok, Instagram (Feed, Reels and Stories), and YouTube, including post optimisation (keywords, story sharing, A/B testing headlines and thumbnails, and maintaining editorial standards and tone).
  • Content scheduling and planning: Managing the publishing calendar and coordinating with editorial, video and partnerships teams to ensure content is delivered on time.
  • Traffic management: Creating UTM tracking links, monitoring campaign traffic, and maintaining Link in Bio landing pages.
  • Platform best practice: Owning and communicating platform best practices, ensuring content is optimised for each channel rather than simply repurposed.
  • Crisis/escalation management: Escalating reputational, legal or safeguarding issues arising from social activity to the appropriate teams.
  • Channel housekeeping: Managing Instagram Highlights, TikTok playlists, pinned posts/videos, and overall channel organisation.
  • Commercial operations: Coordinating the rollout of marketing campaigns, commercial messaging, and sponsored content across social channels.
  • Platform relationships : Acting as the day-to-day contact with the guardian platform partnerships team for operational matters.
Community (with the Community Team)
  • Community engagement: Responding to comments, running interactive Story features (polls, Q&As), and surfacing audience insights.
  • Comment moderation: Monitoring comment sections to uphold community guidelines and mitigate reputational and legal risks.
Audience (with the audience team)
  • Performance reporting: Tracking and reporting on channel and platform performance, providing actionable insights and recommendations.
  • Trend spotting: Working with the wider Audience team to monitor platform algorithm changes, emerging trends, and competitor activity, identifying opportunities for producers.
New Channels (with Berger Leadership and Editorial teams)
  • Channel launch operations: Collaborating with the Berger leadership team to develop and launch new social channels.
Qualifications
  • Excellent writing skills and news judgment.
  • Proven track record of analyzing audience trends and clearly communicating insights to journalists.
  • Strong understanding of search engine optimization best practices, and experience with relevant tools, particularly for A/B testing content in competitive coverage areas.
  • A firm grasp of the Guardian's brand and editorial identity and a strong understanding of the US news media video landscape to find opportunities to experiment and grow.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling headlines and engaging social media copy that captures attention and drives traffic.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in both remote and in-person team environments, fostering collaboration across departments.
