Job summary

U.S. Women's Open Championship is seeking interns to support a major national championship at Inverness Club in Toledo, OH. The role combines office and outdoor work and requires lifting up to 50 pounds, long hours, and strong teamwork.

You will assist with volunteer management, championship office logistics, and operations for parking, security, and transportation, gaining exposure to multiple championship functions while delivering professional communications and on-site support.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work long and strenuous hours (40 – 60+ hour work weeks)
  • Effective communication with a wide variety of individuals involved in a national championship
  • Resourceful, presentable, courteous, friendly, and organized
  • Good follow-up skills and ability to handle issues quickly and calmly
  • Ability to work independently and support the team
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software – above average knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Publisher
  • Ability to prepare presentations to include PowerPoint and printed material
  • Willingness and ability to perform physical championship operations tasks, including lifting up to 50 pounds and safely operating tools, equipment, and championship vehicles as needed
  • Commitment to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment while adhering to all USGA safety and operational policies and procedures

Responsibilities

  • Volunteer Program: Support volunteer training and credential distribution, including training materials, handbooks, credential packets, and volunteer communications.
  • Volunteer Program: Serve as a primary contact for volunteer inquiries via email, phone, and in-person interactions.
  • Volunteer Program: Assist Committee Chairs with scheduling, site visits, and committee operations.
  • Volunteer Program: Manage volunteer apparel ordering, exchanges, and distribution.
  • Volunteer Program: Coordinate volunteer recognition and engagement initiatives throughout the championship.
  • Volunteer Program: Support volunteer area setup, operations, and teardown.
  • Championship Office: Support championship office operations, including answering phones, processing mail and shipments, maintaining supplies, and keeping workspaces organized.
  • Championship Office: Coordinate staff logistics, including meals, laundry, accommodations, rooming adjustments, and arrival/departure tracking.
  • Championship Office: Assist with staff, guest, and VIP communications, including preparation and distribution of credential and arrival materials.
  • Championship Office: Support meetings, receptions, and events through planning, scheduling, setup, and onsite execution.
  • Championship Office: Assist with the setup, organization, and teardown of championship offices, staff spaces, and support facilities.
  • Public Safety, Parking & Transportation: Support private security, parking, and transportation operations by coordinating with vendors and ensuring staffing and deployment plans are executed.
  • Public Safety, Parking & Transportation: Assist with parking pass organization and distribution.
  • Public Safety, Parking & Transportation: Coordinate the delivery, tracking, and return of equipment and resources for parking operations.
  • Public Safety, Parking & Transportation: Support community and resident communications related to championship operations.
  • Public Safety, Parking & Transportation: Assist with post-championship parking lot and transportation teardown activities.
