Job summary

South Shore YMCA- Camp Burgess Hayward in Sandwich, MA seeks a Challenge Course Manager for the summer and year-round program. The role oversees high ropes, ziplines, climbing towers, archery and related activities, plus 70% focus on challenge course duties and 30% on maintenance.

On-site housing is provided with full-time, year-round employment. You will train and supervise seasonal staff, ensure safety and licensure, and collaborate with maintenance and facilities teams to keep camp grounds

Qualifications

• Challenge course experience preferred; additional training provided.
• Level II or Challenge Course Manager certification, or willingness to obtain.
• Archery Level I certification, or willingness to obtain.
• At least 21 years of age.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to develop positive working relationships with staff and other agencies.
• Effective coaching and teaching skills.
• Ability to lead groups of children and staff, guide discussions and staff development.
• Facilities management experience preferred (carpentry, construction, landscaping, painting).

Responsibilities

• Oversees safe operation of challenge course, climbing walls, low ropes, and archery.
• Maintains staff trainings and licensure records.
• Trains, evaluates, and supervises seasonal Challenge Course staff.
• Trains summer camp staff in belaying, archery and low ropes.
• Leads teamwork and drives goal achievement.
• Repairs and inspects challenge course areas annually.
• Supports maintenance across Camp's grounds and facilities.
• Collaborates with full-time staff to meet branch objectives.
• Assists in other Camp Burgess & Hayward operations as needed.
• Supports YMCA fundraising activities and community partnerships.
