Job summary

Somerset County Public Schools in Westover, Maryland seeks a Supervisor of Finance/CFO to oversee all financial functions, ensure GAAP compliance, manage budgeting, forecasting, and reporting, and lead negotiations on behalf of the district. This role is located at the Central Office.

The successful candidate will provide technical leadership in finance, auditing, and purchasing, coordinate audits, and supervise staff while aligning with federal, state, and local regulations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, or related field.
• Certified Public Accountant (preferred).
• Master’s of Business Administration (preferred).
• Has completed a minimum of five years of successful experience in the areas of budget, development, finance, and/or related field.
• Has demonstrated leadership ability in budget development and finance.
• Has knowledge of county, state, and federal regulations (GASB & GAAP) pertaining to public education finance and budget development.
• Has demonstrated proficiency in the use of budget-related software platforms.
• Has good interpersonal communication skills.
• Has a willingness and capability to work beyond the normal workday.
• Knowledge of Blueprint for Maryland's Future legal requirements.
• Demonstrated success in leading in a complex organization.
• Knowledge of relevant Federal and State regulations and current trends in public education.
• Ability to effectively supervise and manage personnel.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Experience with PowerSchool’s eFinancePlus or other accounting/budgeting software.

Responsibilities

• Lead the process and reporting of operating, food service, and restricted grants budgets.
• Coordinate payroll, accounts payable/receivable, and fixed asset management.
• Ensure GAAP and regulatory compliance for financial reporting.
• Oversee internal controls and external audits.
• Collaborate with leadership on annual reporting to Board and regulators.
