Job summary

Peraton is seeking a mid-level Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) engineer to support our NAVAIR customer in Lexington Park/Patuxent River, MD. You will work on critical jet aircraft and rotorcraft propulsion design and development projects, delivering CFD analyses and presenting results to program managers.

Responsibilities include developing 3D flow models, reducing flow separation, and analyzing heat transfer for Navy systems.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 8 years with BS/BA; Minimum of 6 years with MS/MA; Minimum of 3 years with PhD
  • A BS degree in Aerospace, Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related engineering discipline; PhD preferred
  • Proven ability to set up, run, and assess CFD simulations independently
  • Background in rotorcraft and rotor blade modeling
  • Experience with DoD HPC systems and Linux (CLI, transfers, scripting)
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret clearance; US citizenship required

Responsibilities

  • Support and enhance ongoing CFD analysis projects in Propulsion and Power
  • Develop 3D flow models using in-house tools for propulsion customers
  • Reduce flow separation and predict flow-induced forces on nozzles and inlets
  • Analyze heat transfer for Navy aircraft systems
  • Review fleet data and provide rapid, accurate CFD results
  • Post-process results and create status reports for non-experts
  • Work both independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Adapt quickly and work with the Technical Lead and team
