Job summary

The YMCA of Greater Brandywine invites applications for a Group Exercise Instructor to lead energetic classes per YMCA guidelines. You will manage attendance, greet participants, and maintain safety and timing across sessions.

Applicants should hold Zumba certification, be 18+, and have at least 1 year of group exercise experience, with ongoing certifications as required. A supportive workplace with strong benefits awaits.

Qualifications

• Zumba certification is required.
• Must be 18 years or older and able to lead group exercise classes.
• At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required.
• Maintain current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate for each modality.

Responsibilities

• Conduct group exercise classes in a safe, enthusiastic, courteous and professional manner.
• Greet participants, take attendance, and ensure classes run on time.
• Familiarize yourself with Upace Group Ex technology and sub tracking features.
• Identify participant limitations and adapt classes accordingly.
• Promote a healthy lifestyle and participate in staff training and events.

Instruct group exercise classes according to the guidelines set forth by the YMCA of the USA and the Director of Group Exercise.

What You’ll Do

• Conduct group exercise classes and provide assistance in a safe, enthusiastic, thorough, courteous and professional manner.
• Be a positive YMCA role model with an enthusiastic attitude
• All scheduled classes will be held, and sub coverage secured
• Classes will start and end on time
• Greet participants and learn their names
• Take class attendance
• Familiarize yourself with our Upace Group Ex technology which includes but is not limited to sub tracking system, class contact feature, class cancellation
• Check and respond in a timely fashion to your YMCA email
• Identify your participants’ limitations and adapt your classes and/or provide modifications accordingly
• Properly and safely utilize all equipment associated with your class
• Promote a healthy lifestyle
• Attend advanced training workshops that are offered throughout the year by the YMCA of Greater Brandywine (or another co-op member YMCA)
• Participate in special events and open houses throughout the year
• Ensures compliance with all YGBW policies and standard operating procedures.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Need

• Zumba certification
• Must be 18 years or older
• At least 1 year of participation in group exercise class(es) required
• Possess and maintains at least one current Group Exercise certificate of completion or specialty certificate from a reputable organization for each specialized group modality
• Obtain and maintain all new hire certifications and trainings within 90 days of hire
