Job summary

Sunward Steel is seeking a Quality Control Inspector / CWI at our Walterboro, SC facility. You will verify welded structural members meet shop drawings, specs, and AWS codes, partnering with Production and Engineering to resolve issues before shipment.

Starting pay reflects your background; those with PEMB/NDt experience can expect higher placement. This is in-plant, full-time work with no travel and a clear path for advancement.

Qualifications

• Current AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) per AWS QC1
• 2+ years of quality inspection experience in structural steel fabrication
• Ability to read and interpret shop drawings, engineering drawings, and specifications
• Proficiency with precision measuring instruments and basic computer skills (Excel, ERP data entry)

Responsibilities

• Perform visual weld inspection of primary framing and connections per AWS D1.1 and project specs
• Inspect materials against shop drawings, cut lists, and MTRs for traceability
• Maintain WPS, PQR, and WPQ records and witness welder qualification tests
• Record inspection results and support CAPA, audits, and continuous improvement
