Job description

We are currently looking for a CWI Welding Inspector (CWI). This position involves handling visual field and fabrication shop welds for process piping and structural steel. It is a full-time position with benefits.

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  1. Perform all duties, skills, and responsibilities of a Senior Technician.
  2. Ensure fabricated steel fits as planned, meets customer specifications, and inspections are completed to support workflow and sequence.
  3. Maintain accurate documentation for every project and assist the Quality Control Manager with the ASME program.
  4. Ensure all production employees understand and follow applicable ASME standards.
  5. Collaborate with Production Supervisors, Engineers, and customer representatives to resolve defects.
  6. Communicate daily with fabrication employees.
  7. Provide training and assistance, and counsel employees on quality improvement.
  8. Identify and resolve quality non-conformances efficiently and cost-effectively.
  9. Implement new project specifications.
  10. Manage welder certification programs and ensure testing per contract specifications.
  11. Monitor internal and external non-destructive testing programs, ensuring standards are met and documented.
  12. Stay informed on industry trends and innovations affecting manufacturing and service.

Qualifications:

  • Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of welding processes (TIG, MIG, SMAW, etc.) and materials.
  • Familiarity with AWS and ASME welding codes.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
  • Skill in assessing weld quality, identifying defects, and ensuring standards are met.
  • Proficiency in preparing detailed inspection reports.
  • Effective communication skills with welders, supervisors, and management.
  • Ability to maintain organized documentation and adhere to safety standards.
  • Capability to write and communicate Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) per code requirements.
