Job summary

Labcorp in Madison, WI is seeking a Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our team. The role involves performing and documenting basic veterinary laboratory procedures under SOPs and GLPs, monitoring animal health, and upholding the Animal Welfare Act within a Culture of Care.

Responsibilities include animal care, husbandry, reporting concerns, assisting with surgical procedures, and mentoring staff. A Life Sciences degree or related technical degree with hands-on experience is required.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination with 6 months or more hands-on life sciences experience.

  • Perform aseptic surgical preparation, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Train and mentor staff.

  • Identify gaps and communicate potential improvements.

Job description

Labcorp is seeking a Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our team in Madison, WI!

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 6:30 am-3:15 pm CST some weekends and holidays required.

Job Responsibilities

The Veterinary Surgery Tech will perform and document basic veterinary laboratory procedures in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), protocols, and regulatory guidelines. They will monitor animal health and welfare while adhering to the principles of the Animal Welfare Act and our strong commitment to a Culture of Care, ensuring that animal well-being remains the highest priority at all times.

  • Ensure animals are cared for according to regulatory guidelines and ethical principles.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties as needed.
  • Report and resolve animal care concerns.
  • Interpret and understand complex protocols.
  • Adhere to good research practices (GXP) principles.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and ensure compliance with protocols and regulations.
  • Perform various medical procedures on multiple species.
  • Conduct aseptic surgical preparation, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Support other departments with study-related tasks.
  • Train and mentor staff.
  • Contribute to process improvements and updates.
  • Review SOPs and develop new procedures.
  • Identify and communicate gaps for potential improvements.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre-veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline), OR an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and 6 months or more of hands‑on experience in Life Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, or animal science) that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months or more experience assisting with and or performing surgical procedures.
  • CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician.
  • 6 months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines).
