Job description

Labcorp is seeking a Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our team in Madison, WI.

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday 6:30am–3:15pm CST, with some weekends and holidays required.

Job Responsibilities
  • Perform and document basic veterinary laboratory procedures in accordance with SOPs, GLPs, protocols, and regulatory guidelines.
  • Monitor animal health and welfare, adhering to the Animal Welfare Act and a Culture of Care.
  • Ensure animals are cared for per regulatory guidelines and ethical principles.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties as needed.
  • Report and resolve animal care concerns.
  • Interpret and understand complex protocols.
  • Adhere to GXP principles.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and ensure compliance with protocols and regulations.
  • Perform various medical procedures on multiple species.
  • Conduct aseptic surgical preparation, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Support other departments with study‑related tasks.
  • Train and mentor staff.
  • Contribute to process improvements and updates.
  • Review SOPs and develop new procedures.
  • Identify and communicate gaps for potential improvements.
Minimum Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre‑veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline), OR an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and six months or more of hands‑on experience in Life Sciences that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Six months or more experience assisting with and/or performing surgical procedures.
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT).
  • Six months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines).
