Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences or an Associate degree with relevant hands-on Life Sciences experience.
  • 6 months or more hands-on Life Sciences experience.
  • Ability to follow SOPs, GLPs and regulatory guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and document basic veterinary laboratory procedures.
  • Monitor animal health and welfare in line with Animal Welfare Act and Culture of Care.
  • Complete animal husbandry tasks and report animal care concerns.
  • Interpret complex protocols and maintain GXP compliance.
  • Assist with surgical preparation, anesthesia, and surgical procedures across multiple species.
  • Train and mentor staff and contribute to SOP updates.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Life Sciences
Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology
Equivalent combination of education and 6+ months Life Sciences experience

Labcorp is seeking a Veterinary Surgery Technician to join our team in Madison, WI!

Work Schedule

Monday-Friday 6:30 am-3:15 pm CST some weekends and holidays required.

Job Responsibilities

The Veterinary Surgery Tech will perform and document basic veterinary laboratory procedures in accordance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Good Laboratory Practices (GLPs), protocols, and regulatory guidelines. They will monitor animal health and welfare while adhering to the principles of the Animal Welfare Act and our strong commitment to a Culture of Care, ensuring that animal well-being remains the highest priority at all times.

  • Ensure animals are cared for according to regulatory guidelines and ethical principles.
  • Perform animal husbandry duties as needed.
  • Report and resolve animal care concerns.
  • Interpret and understand complex protocols.
  • Adhere to good research practices (GXP) principles.
  • Maintain client confidentiality and ensure compliance with protocols and regulations.
  • Perform various medical procedures on multiple species.
  • Conduct aseptic surgical preparation, anesthesia, and surgical procedures.
  • Support other departments with study‑related tasks.
  • Train and mentor staff.
  • Contribute to process improvements and updates.
  • Review SOPs and develop new procedures.
  • Identify and communicate gaps for potential improvements.
Minimum Required
  • Bachelor’s degree in a Life Sciences field (e.g., Biology, Wildlife, Pre‑veterinary, Zoology, Genetics, Environmental Biology, Animal Science, or related discipline), OR an Associate degree in Laboratory Animal Technology or Veterinary Technology, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and 6 months or more of hands‑on experience in Life Sciences (such as biology, chemistry, biochemistry, microbiology, genetics, or animal science) that provides the knowledge and skills required for the role.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 6 months or more experience assisting with and or performing surgical procedures.
  • CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician.
  • 6 months or more experience in a vivarium setting with familiarity in animal welfare standards (IACUC, AAALAC, or similar guidelines).
