- Assist veterinarians with examination, treatment, monitoring, and patient care
- Administer prescribed medications, vaccines, and treatments
- Monitor vital signs, collect samples, perform diagnostic tests, and record results
- Prepare and analyze blood, urine, and fecal laboratory samples
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment
- Prepare surgical suites, instruments, and patients for surgery
- Assist during surgery, including equipment and medication support, anesthesia monitoring, and postoperative care
- Educate clients about Wellness Plans, animal care, nutrition, medication administration, and disease prevention
- Maintain accurate medical charts and meet hospital quality-control standards
- Maintain hospital equipment and manage supplies, inventory, and restocking
- Support efficient day-to-day hospital operations and advocate for hospital performance
- Perform reception duties such as triaging calls, scheduling appointments, and facilitating patient intake and discharge
- Provide professional customer service and resolve complaints as appropriate
- Adhere to OSHA standards and perform other assigned duties
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Associate degree is a plus
- Must have and maintain a valid certification, registration, or licensing: CVT, RVT, or LVT (state specific)
- 1+ years of veterinary hospital experience
- Experience handling and restraining dogs, cats, and exotic animals
- Experience providing basic animal care, including feeding, bathing, grooming, and monitoring for distress or illness
- Knowledge and experience with surgery, dentistry, radiology, laboratory diagnostics, and anesthesia management
- Familiarity with veterinary medical terminology and abbreviations
- Understanding of veterinary medications, dosage calculations, drug interactions, and administration methods
- Strong customer service, communication, organizational, and judgment skills
- Ability to multitask, prioritize, work independently, and remain calm in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to learn computer software systems, including EMR and scheduling systems
- Ability to lift 50+ pounds
- Must be willing and able to work onsite, including possible 10+ hour shifts, Saturdays, evenings, and holidays
- Must comply with OSHA standards and company policies
