Job summary

NVA General Practice is seeking a dedicated Veterinary Technician to support veterinarians and caring for patients in a fast-paced clinical setting. You will perform diagnostic procedures, assist during examinations and surgeries, monitor anesthesia, and help educate clients on home care and preventive health.

You will maintain medical records, ensure safety, and contribute to a calm, compassionate hospital environment.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an AVMA-accredited Veterinary Technology program or equivalent experience.
• Current state Veterinary Technician license (or ability to obtain) preferred.
• Knowledge of veterinary terminology, procedures and pharmacology.
• Ability to work flexible schedules, including some weekends and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinarians during examinations, treatments, and surgical procedures.
• Perform diagnostic procedures such as blood draws, urine collection, and fecal testing.
• Place and maintain IV catheters and administer medications as prescribed.
• Monitor anesthesia and post-operative recovery with attention to patient safety and comfort.
• Provide nursing care for hospitalized patients, including feeding, cleaning, and observation.
• Document patient medical records and treatment plans in hospital computer system.
• Communicate with clients regarding treatment recommendations and home care instructions.
• Prepare and maintain surgical and exam areas, ensuring cleanliness and proper equipment function.
• Handle and restrain animals safely and compassionately.
• Maintain inventory and stock supplies as needed.
• Uphold safety and infection control protocols at all times.
• Support a positive hospital culture through teamwork, empathy, and respect toward clients, patients, and colleagues.
