Berg Animal Hospital is adding a Full-Time Surgical Lead - Certified Veterinary Technician to our team!

$1500 Sign on Bonus

* Must have at least 3 years of experience within a hospital setting. We utilize our technicians to the fullest. Must have experience with calculating drug doses, anesthesia administration and anesthetic monitoring.*

Location: 622 Rt-34, Matawan, NJ 07747

Compensation: Starting at $25 - $30

Clinic Hours:

Monday - 9:00am - 7:00pm

Tues day - 9:00am - 6:00pm

Wednesday - 9:00am - 6:00pm

Thursday - 9:00am - 7:00pm

Friday - 9:00am - 6:00pm

Saturday - 9:00am - 2:00pm

Sunday - Closed

Berg Animal Hospital, an AAHA accredited practice, is expanding and seeking a dedicated Surgical Lead Certified Veterinary Technician to join our team. With our upcoming addition of a third veterinarian, we're looking for a passionate individual to help manage our surgical department and contribute to a culture of support, accountability, and growth.

About the Role:
As a Surgical Lead CVT, you will oversee all aspects of surgery within our fast-paced hospital, with a focus on anesthesia, surgery, and surgical inventory. You'll manage equipment and monitoring devices, ensuring everything is maintained and ready for use. Responsibilities include:
  • Surgical Operations: Direct the surgical flow, prepare medications and anesthetics, monitor patients during surgery, and complete treatments and procedures.
  • Leadership: Lead the surgical team, ensure accurate charge entry, and provide discharge instructions to clients.
  • Mentorship: Guide and educate team members, with opportunities to offer continuing education and live demonstrations.

Additional Responsibilities:
  • Serve as the OSHA Safety Officer, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
  • Assist with ongoing career development and leadership training within our growing practice.
  • Champion our Fear Free philosophy (training provided if not yet certified), and support our commitment to patient care through techniques such as IV catheters, pain management protocols, and post-surgery laser therapy.

Requirements:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Certified Veterinary Technician.
  • Passion for anesthesia, surgery, and veterinary medicine.
  • Willingness to become RECOVER Certified in CPR (training provided if needed).

Responsibilities

Major Duties:
  • Our Veterinary Technicians are responsible for in-patient medical care- administer medications, assist or perform treatments, diagnostics & monitoring, place IV catheters, draw blood, run lab tests, administer IV fluids, cleaning, feeding, and walking patients as needed.
  • Anesthesia/Surgery - Our Veterinary Technician's prep, induction, maintenance, monitoring, recovery of patients, cleans/maintains/sterilize anesthesia equipment and surgical instruments.
  • Dentistry- Our Veterinary Technician's provide patient dental care, ultrasonic cleaning and polishing, assist doctor with dental surgery.
  • Radiology - Our Veterinary Technician's position patients and assist with radiographs, sending radiographs via email.
  • Laboratory duties- Our Veterinary Technician's are responsible for collecting, preparing, & running or submitting samples for requested tests; reading and recording results when indicated (fecals, Urines, Ear cytology etc) when requested by doctor.
  • Preparing invoices, discharge instructions, and client informational tools
  • Client communication for hospitalized patients - give patient updates, discharge instructions, and provide follow up for certain hospital patients.
  • Client medical demonstrations / education - teach/educate clients on at home care procedures.
  • Veterinary Technician appointments- blood draws for therapeutic monitoring / screening tests, bandage changes, post-op checks, suture removals, AG, TNT.
  • Clinic technician- assisting doctor with outpatient appointments, preparing, restocking, cleaning exam room, check patients in and out, take history and vitals, input data into patient medical record, ensure a smooth and timely flow of outpatient appointments from check-in to discharge.
  • Assist with reception/front desk duties as needed- answering phones, booking appointments, admit/discharge patients.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new team members.
  • Assist with inventory control - informing inventory manager when products are getting low/out, unpacking, restocking drug & medical supplies.
  • Preparing prescriptions - dispensed medications & medication refills.


Qualifications

Physical Requirements:

  • The veterinary technician must have the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb as well as manipulate (lift, carry, move) up to 50 pounds and over 50 pounds with a coworker.
  • The veterinary technician must be able to endure sitting, standing and walking on hard floor surfaces for extended periods of time.
  • The veterinary technician must possess sufficient ambulatory skills to perform duties while in hospital environment.
  • The veterinary technician must be able to work in noisy work conditions with sounds from animals and equipment that can be moderately high.
  • The veterinary technician will be routinely exposed to a variety of pets that may bite or scratch, and on occasion, exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, and medication/controlled substances.
  • The veterinary technician must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity with the ability to grasp and visual acuity to use a keyboard and operate equipment.
