Job summary

Adapt-Community-Network in Brooklyn is seeking a Certified Teacher Assistant for our School Age Program. The role includes a sign-on bonus and requires NYS Teacher Assistant Certification (Level I, II or III).

Qualifications

• Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills necessary to interact effectively with coworkers, children, and parents
• Must maintain confidentiality of children’s records
• Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures

Responsibilities

• Provides instructional aid in classroom and supports teacher with lesson delivery.
• Aids in program plans and preparations.
• Assists with supervision of children in assigned areas.
• Provides information about children to assist in development of learning and behavioral experiences.
• Assists Teacher with development of instructional materials.
• Performs clerical work for assigned areas (collating, folding, typing, laminating, answering telephones).
• Participates in case conferences as needed.
• Ensures services respect personal dignity, privacy and confidentiality.
• Provides program support/coverage as needed.
• Ensures data collection and progress notes reflect functioning and program standards.
• Follows established classroom activity schedules.
• Assists Special Education Teacher in maintaining a clean and organized classroom.
• Implements universal precautions.
• Assists with toileting and feeding of children as needed.
• Assists with outer clothing of children on arrival and departure as needed.
• Participates in activities outside the room (e.g., trips, pool, gym).
• Attends required staff meetings and in-service trainings.
• Assists with transporting children between buses and building as requested.
• Initiates precautions to ensure work is completed safely.
• Substitutes in other classrooms as requested.
• Performs other related duties as requested.
