Job summary

Mercy is seeking a skilled Surgical Technologist/Assistant to join the operating room team. The role involves ensuring proper exposure of the surgical field and assisting with clamps, ties, sutures, or coagulation under direction, while upholding patient rights and confidentiality.

Required are HS diploma or GED, a degree or experience in Surgical Technology, and a valid BLS certification. Two years in the OR and specific CST/CSA certifications are preferred or required as noted.

Qualifications

• Two years of Operating Room experience is required.
• Certified Surgical First Assistant, Certified Surgical Assistant, or Surgical Assistant - Certified is required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.

Responsibilities

• Provide exposure and visibility of the surgical field and assist with clamps, ties, sutures, or coagulation as directed.
• Maintain patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.
• Coordinate patient care in conjunction with other departments.

Clamps, ties, sutures, or coagulates as directed in the surgical field. Utilizes and applies knowledge of surgical procedure and in anatomy and physiology. Maintains professional accountability for provision of patient care for the assigned patients.

Evaluates the overall effectiveness of care provided by other direct caregivers.

Coordinates the patient care in conjunction with other departments.

Maintains patient rights and confidentiality of patient information.

Position Details:

Required Education: HS Diploma or GED.

Required Licensure: Surgical Technology experience or Graduate with a Degree in Surgical Technology or completion certificate.

Required Other: Maintain BLS certification.

Preferred Licensure: Certification from an accredited surgical technology program preferred.

Required Experience: of two years in the Operating Room.

Required Certifications: Certified Surgical First Assistant, Certified Surgical Assistant, or Surgical Assistant - Certified required. Basic Life Support (BLS) required.

Preferred Certifications: CST.
