Job summary

WVU Medicine in Martinsburg, WV is seeking a skilled surgical support specialist to serve as the scrub person for operative procedures in the OR. Qualifications

• Current LPN license with 2 years of scrub experience, or completion of a Surgical Technology program with certification.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days of hire date.
• One year of surgical technology experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Utilizes aseptic technique in the OR as scrub person.
• Assist circulating RN to maintain a sterile field and monitor technique.
• Perform counts of sponges, instruments, and needles with the circulating RN.
• Assist with gowning, gloving, positioning of equipment and instruments.
• Pass sterile instruments to the surgical team during procedures.
• Support patient transport and positioning as directed by the surgeon.
• Prepare supplies and equipment per preference cards for procedures.
• Assist with sterilization and maintenance of supplies and equipment.
• Monitor inventory, restock supplies, and discard or reprocess items as needed.
• Record patient charges after procedures and assist with related tasks.
• Mentor level one technologists and support team development.

Prepares supplies and equipment for surgical procedure following preference cards.8. Assists with sterilization and maintenance of sterile and non-sterile supplies and equipment.9. Monitors inventory; orders; and restocks supplies, instruments, and equipment.10. Removes out-of-date items and discards or reprocesses following established guidelines.11. Assists with the general cleaning duties of the department.12. Performs equipment checks as assigned.13. Assists with the proper recording of patient charges.14. Call with a response time of 30 minutes.15. Serves as a mentor to the team and supports the development of level one technologistsFor facilities with specialty accreditation requirements:1. Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards .
